Does anyone else have a problem when trying to post a reply?
If I click on "post a reply" I often get half way through writing my reply when suddenly the whole thing disappears from the screen and I have to start all over again!

If I click on " Quick reply" I don't seem to have a problem!

Am I doing something wrong or does my computer just have a weird sense of humour??BigGrin

Keep on smiling folks

I have been playing with the system to see if I could make it do what you described. And I can make it do it by pressing three keys, Ctrl+A (together) then ANY other key

Ctrl+A is the windows short-cut key for select all, and the next key you hit will replace everything that is selected.

So if you're having problems with your keyboard due to RA it's just possible to accidentally hit that key combination, especially as the Ctrl key is right beneath the Shift key, so if you meant to type Shift+A to get an upper case A, but hit the Ctrl key plus A by mistake that would select everything. Then, pretty much whatever key you hit next will delete the highlighted text and replace it with whatever key you pressed.

(Sorry to cast aspersions on your typing skills BTW)

If I'm right, then all is not lost because there is a way to get back your lost material, as long as you spot it soon enough. There is another Windows keyboard short-cut, Ctrl+z which undoes the last n keystrokes. Hold down the Ctrl key and press Z repeatedly till the deleted text reappears.

Of course now you're going to tell me that you don't have a Windows PC. I am not familiar with Macs but I think they do have corresponding keyboard short-cuts.

Hope that helps

BTW, the only difference between quick reply and normal reply is you don't get all the text formatting tools and smilies / emoticons

Hi people and thanks Paul for your advice.

I'm sure I am not accidentally hitting the wrong keys though I have wondered that However on a couple of occasions the script has disappeared whilst I'm just looking at the screen!!
Next time it happens I will take more note and try and recover it by using your tips .Or I might just continue using the Quick Reply minus the smilies!

P.S. Paul,

being technically challenged I don't understand a word you've replied..lol :)

No offence but good to read I'm scared of touching ctr, alt and all the other keys apart from A B C and enter..lol

@Suzanne - Sorry. It's the Software Product Manager in me!

@Both - If you are certain that you are not accidentally deleting yourself then the my solution won't work because it will only undo a keyboard deletion. So, next time it happens, try Ctrl+z. If it doesn't restore your work then we will know for sure that the forum software is the problem. If it DOES work we will know that it was an accidental deletion.

If it's a problem with the forum then it needs to be reported so NRAS can take it up with the forum software company.

Don't be frightened of touching the Ctrl and Alt keys. On their own they do nothing. When combined with other keys they have many useful properties - such as Ctrl+I to turn on italics (won't work in the forum though).

If there's any other PC problem you have on which I can blind you with science, please feel free....... LOL

An update Paul!
will be informing NRAS I think, as another one has vanished! Just re reading a long reply, fingers hovering over keyboard and off it went!
I tried your tip and nothing came back so resorted to quick reply with no smilies and no problem!
